This past week has been a whirlwind of activity, at times filled with anxiety and excitement. Becoming a Bishop was not something I had ever expected or aspired to, but sometimes God calls us out of our comfort zone and asks us to embrace the unknown with faith and trust. The motto selected for my Coat of Arms is “Thy Will Be Done.” I chose “Thy Will Be Done” as a reminder to me and to all of us that our lives are in God’s hands and faith helps us navigate the twists and turns that life can throw at us. No matter where we find ourselves, no matter what is asked of us, or what is happening in our lives, God is with us, leading us forward.
This weekend, our Gospel reading is a beautiful reminder that we are part of the family of God. We hear the words of Jesus, “And looking around those seated in the circle he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers and sisters. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.” As a parish community, we are family, we are brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. In every family, our roles change over time, yet the bond of love continues. While my role may change a little in our family of faith, the bond of love continues and will carry us forward.
I am humbled and grateful for your continued support as I take on new responsibilities. Your confidence, kind words, and presence have helped me let go of fear and walk forward with faith, embracing the words of our Savior, “Thy Will Be Done”. Let us continue to grow our family of faith together, discovering God’s love in new and exciting ways as we journey together.
May God bless you and your loved ones, today, tomorrow, and for evermore.
