As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of this parish, we not only look back at our history, but we also look forward to the gifts and challenges that have yet to unfold. Ten years ago, a small group of people believed they could make a difference, that they could help create a parish community rooted in love that welcomed everyone without exception and that would challenge one another to be our best selves, putting faith into action.
While we celebrate ten years, the roots of our parish began with a vision shared by Fr. Charles and I more than twenty years ago. In 2008, Fr. Charles and I began to dream of resuming our call to priesthood in an affirming and empowering faith community. As we shared our vision, others began to express interest, and this community began to take shape. Over the years, people have come and gone, but the spirt has remained. Our parish community exists today because of the hard work, sacrifice, and dedication of many people, including each of you.
We have faced our fair share of challenges and made mistakes along the way, but the hope and vision has never been lost. The challenges not only hardened our resolve and strengthened our hope, but also taught us valuable tools to help improve and grow in faith. So many of you have stepped into leadership roles and have taken on the challenge to make this parish not only viable, but also a beacon of hope. Due to the dedication and love of our members and the clergy team, we have earned the title, “The Small Church With A Big Heart.”
While Fr. Charles and I may be the founding pastors of Christ the Good Shepherd, the success we’ve experienced is directly attributed to you, to everyone who calls our parish home. From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every person who is or has been a part of this parish community. You have enriched my life and strengthened my faith immeasurably. Let us resolve to continue this journey together, sharing our lives, our faith, and our vision as we continue to walk in faith.
May God bless you and your loved ones today, tomorrow, and forevermore.
