The story of the resurrection is a powerful story of love and trust. Following the crucifixion, the disciples had not yet grasped the meaning, or even the possibility of the resurrection. That is with exception of the beloved disciple, the one who stood with Christ at the Cross, who comforted Mary on that dark day. When the others fled in fear, he stood with Jesus and Mary until the bitter end. When he saw the folded burial clothes of Jesus, he believed, in his heart he knew that love could not die. Even though he had not seen the risen Lord, we are told “…he saw and believed.”
Eyes of love can “see” what the unaided human eye cannot. When we look at life with eyes of love, we too see a world of possibilities, where love triumphs over evil, where hope never dies. While some may believe the end of the story has come, our faith tells us differently, our faith teaches us to never lose hope. As people of the resurrection, we know not to underestimate God, not to close the book before its finished.
In our own lives, living the resurrection involves being open, being open to the world of possibilities rather than being trapped in our own self-imposed limitations. We have a God full of surprises and great things can unfold in our lives when we let go and trust. Life rarely unfolds the way we think it should. No matter what twists and turns life takes, we can’t lose sight of the fact that God journeys along with us.
We are the people of the resurrection, and we have a mission to continue to write the story of Jesus, of the resurrection, each day with the events that unfold in our lives, never losing hope, never trembling in fear, always believing in hope and the power of love to set us free.
Happy Easter my friends!
May God bless you and your loved ones today, tomorrow, and forevermore.
