Our scripture readings this weekend provide us with a good roadmap for conflict resolution. Rather than complaining, gossiping, or holding on to anger, Jesus challenges us to try to resolve conflict with mutual respect, love, and understanding, allowing room to forgive and be forgiven. While that sounds good on paper, we all know that life is not always so easy.
We live in a consumer driven culture where marketing professionals are great at telling us what we desire, what we need to be satisfied, and how we should behave if we want to be successful. It is not always easy to balance the conflicting messages we receive with our Christian faith. Yet, the truth of Jesus words still echoes today, inviting us to let go and to give love a chance.
As we attempt to navigate the twists and turns of life as disciples of Jesus, I invite you to spend some time in prayer this week identifying one person with whom you have difficulty forgiving or with whom you hold a grudge or resentment. Spend time praying for that person and asking God to give you the grace to truly forgive and to be reconciled as sister or brother.
May God bless you and your loved ones today, tomorrow, and forevermore.
